Per-rack power monitoring for a data center

So NetRealty could see its data center's power status at the level of each server rack, we designed the power-metering hardware, installed it in the distribution panel, and delivered the measured data through a custom dashboard.

Challenge

In a data center, supplying and managing power reliably to each server rack matters. NetRealty needed a monitoring system that could show, in real time, the power status going out to each rack.

To see power usage at the rack level, it first needed hardware that directly measures the current and voltage on each circuit leaving the distribution panel. Off-the-shelf products alone made it hard to measure the exact points required, in the form required, and to manage that data on one screen.

Approach

Alpaon designed the power-metering hardware, installed it in the data center's distribution panel, and delivered a custom dashboard that visualizes the measured data.

We designed and built hardware that measures the current and voltage on the circuits running from the distribution panel to each server rack. Because we built it from the circuit level, we could measure exactly the points that the data center's layout required.

The measured data was connected to a custom dashboard built for NetRealty, so the power status of each server rack could be checked in real time on one screen.

Outcome

NetRealty can now monitor its data center's power status at the level of each server rack in real time.

Alpaon handled the full path, from metering hardware to dashboard, arranging the measurement points and the screen to fit the site as one flow. It is a case of turning physical power measurement into data and visualizing it in a form that can be read at a glance.
