Challenge
DMIC wanted to add remote monitoring to the industrial machines it manufactures, as a feature that raises the value of its products. Adding monitoring creates real value for both the manufacturer and its customers: the manufacturer can identify a problem remotely before dispatching a field service visit, and the customer can monitor a machine's status without traveling to where it is installed.
Solutions that add this as an add-on to a machine already existed. What was uncommon was a complete end-to-end platform spanning device connectivity, cloud, dashboard, and apps. DMIC wanted to add the capability quickly on top of a proven platform rather than building and integrating the pieces itself.
Approach
Alpaon provided a complete platform, through AlpaConnect, spanning device connectivity to monitoring.
Using the platform's dashboards and apps, DMIC added remote monitoring to its equipment with little effort. With IoT connectivity built into the equipment (OEM), each shipped product connects directly to Alpaon's monitoring environment. Rather than building and integrating each component itself, DMIC layered the feature onto a platform that was already in place.
Data from connected machines is aggregated into a single console, monitoring a fleet distributed at home and abroad in real time. The manufacturer and its customers each see equipment status and collected signals on the screens they need.
Outcome
DMIC added remote monitoring as a new source of value in its products. The manufacturer can diagnose status remotely before dispatching a service visit, and customers monitor machines without traveling to the site.
As the monitoring data accumulates in the cloud, it also created a natural environment for putting that data to use with AI. Without building a separate data pipeline, DMIC can extend to later analysis and AI application.
